Georgian classical play “The Miser” has never been staged at Rustaveli National Theatre until now. Directed by Gocha Kapanadze, the musical-choreographic performance is presented on the small stage by the actors of Rustaveli National Theatre. The playwright Giorgi Eristavi was one of the greatest public figures and the first Georgian comedy writer. He laid the foundation for critical realism in Georgian literature. With his plays, he was the first to look straight at the reality, called it timeworn without embellishment and depicted it in realistic characters. With “The Miser”, he highlighted the superficiality and stupidity of the upper class. He created the vivid characters of the nobility standing in the way of degradation. Through the lines and actions of the characters, the director makes it clear where to look for the cause of their misfortune.
